There are more than 5 million deaths around the globe per year attributed to smoking tobacco and the treatment of tobacco related diseases costs about 25 billion euros ($34 billion) per year in the EU alone. Every year over 700,000 Europeans and more than 440,000 Americans breathe their last breath from smoking-related illnesses. E-cigarettes work as well as nicotine patches in helping people to quit smoking, according to a recent study of 657 smokers. With the availability of alternatives to tobacco such as E-cigarettes, along with various anti-smoking measures, the number of tobacco smokers has fallen from 40% to 28% of the EU's 500 million citizens. An estimated 7 million smokers in Europe now use E-cigarettes and the market for related paraphernalia is estimated to be worth over $650 million a year.
The infographic shows that this year the E-cigarette industry should crack $1 billion in revenue and by 2047 sales could outpace traditional cigarettes. The market for electronic cigarettes, which barely existed a few years ago, is predicted by Wall Street analysts to be $1.7 billion this year in the United States. The infographic also shows that there are only a few basic components to E-cigarettes and what you are inhaling is only water vapor and nicotine.
