PHOENIX, USA (Sep 6, 2013) -- Two Arizona residents have teamed up to launch an IndieGoGo campaign aimed at lowering your energy bills and making the in-door air you breathe cleaner. John Pollock of Peoria and Mike Mayer of Glendale have developed a very easy to use and low cost monitor that alerts you when air filters need to be changed based on how dirty they are versus when they were last changed. The product is called FilterWatch and the company claims households could save as much as 15% on their HVAC energy bill AND help prevent the triggers that cause asthma and other respiratory attacks.
The duo entered their product into a competition put on by Philips Innovation Fellows and hosted on the crowdfunding site IndieGoGo. Campaigns that met strict requirements of supporting living well, being healthy and enjoying life were allowed to enter the competition.
To reach the finals and be considered for one of the top 5 prizes, a campaign must get 100 unique backers and reach 50% of their funding goal. FilterWatch reached that goal is just 7 days.
“We had great opening response to our product and as we educate the public on the impact of not changing their dirty air filters in a timely fashion, we expect the response to be even greater.”, says Pollock. “Winning one of the four $10,000 prizes would be a nice start to our business but winning the top prize of $60,000 is our target.”
