Largo, Maryland. November 21, 2013. Mr. Minn Minn Oung, Chairman and CEO of Silver Wave Energy, Myanmar, visited the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on November 18 and met with several business leaders. Silver Wave is one of Myanmar’s largest private companies doing business in the fields of energy, hospitality, transportation, trading and other fields. Ms. Gwen McCall, President and CEO of EDC met Mr. Oung and felicitated him a dinner she hosted at Lanham, Maryland.
Ms. McCall warmly welcomed Mr. Oung and dinner guests. She stated, “Mr. Oung is an official invitee of the State of Maryland Department of Economic Development. We met him during Governor O’Malley and County Executive Baker’s business mission to India in December 2011, and are pleased to renew our friendship. We are honored to have him visit us, and look forward to connecting our businesses with those in Myanmar for mutual trade, investment and job creation.”
At the dinner reception, Mr. Oung thanked EDC President Ms. Gwen McCall and EDC Executive Vice President, Dr. Pradeep Ganguly for their hospitality. He stated, “Like Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland, Myanmar is a land of opportunity. Let us explore how we can grow our business, especially in the areas of energy, resort hotels, transportation, and infrastructure development. I hope to return to Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland for expanding business and investment opportunities.” Those that attended Ms. McCall’s reception included, Maryland Secretary of State John McDonough, EDC General Counsel Eddie Pounds, Ms. Diana Jackson of EDC, Vice Chair of EDC Board of Directors Marva Jo Camp, Board Member and ex-diplomat Ollie Anderson, IBSAC Chair Dallah Herman. Several business leaders attended the diner reception, including Mr. Manish Kothari, Mr. Geun Jae (Richard) Rhee, Ms. Nabee Yi and Mr. George Dang.
Mr. Minn Minn Oung also welcomed Ms. McCall and others for an official visit to Myanmar. The evening ended with a vote of thanks to Ms. McCall and EDC.
